Film Language- Boyz n The Hood

Boyz n The hood

It starts of with a black screen with white writing says 2 facts. one faded out then the next one comes in then the next one fades out then goes to a red stop sign.
Then it goes to a hand held shot slowly getting closer to a big red stop sign from and long shout to and extreme close up. It is a slit low worm eyes view angle but pretty much normal angle. It is a cloudy grey day beyond the sign.
It goes to a steady cam of a boy waiting on the path. A longshot and a normal angle view from across the road.
It starts to move as a tracking shot still a long shot. The by that is waiting starts to walk as his friends are coming across then road. All of them walk off and the camera starts to move with them.
Then its goes to a medium long shot cutting off at the knees. It is still tracking with them.
One of the boys turns as then the camera goes to a medium shot of him then turns to the rest of the friends still a medium shot and a steady cam. it does this 4 times then cuts to a one way street sign.
The sign is viewed from a birds eye view angle and it tilts down.

Film Pitch

A Year In LA

Most people thought the film was title was catchy and suited to age and genre well. Also most people liked the characters that we have choose from recent and other films that they have featured in. Zac and Vanessa are childhood characters most of these teenagers girls grew up with in their favourite movie as a child. Seth and Rebel are funny characters they have seen in other films like pitch perfect one and two and for seth bd neighbours or one of the many other silly funny films he has starred in.

The enigma codes people got from the pitch was quite a lot and people wanted to know the questions being asked.
The way we was going to promote our film people thought it was a suitable way as most younger people use twitter, youtube and Spotify.

The average rating for our movie out of 70 was 49 over all the components.
All of the reviews said yes they would buy the films rights. Everyone would buy the DVD or pay to watch in the cinema so it intrigued everyone that saw it.

What do we mean when we use the word film?
I think of famous people acting for people entertainment and to give a lesson out of each of the films. I think of sitting at the cinema or putting it on at home and sitting in the dark. Eating loads of sweets and chocolate.

Do you think that it means the same as the word movie?
Yes I do think its the same word but I use film more because most other people use film as well.

What about the word cinema?
I think this is watching a film in its true way as the screen is its biggest. You get the full volume as the was the director wanted you to see it you can change the volume or edit any of the screen. The size of the screen and the surround sound makes it just a little better.

How do you find out about a film?
usually I see advertisements of the movie before it is brought out on cinema. If I like the trailer I go watch it or sometimes I wit toil it comes out on DVD to watch it. I also hear about film that haven't been advertised as much from family and friends. Some of the older film that my parents watched and thought they were good they would tell me to watch the film.

What makes you want to see a film
I like different genres so I will watch most films. If some tells me its a good film I will watch it most of the time when I get the time.

How do you know what to expect about the film?
I watch the trailer of the film to see what's it about also by people telling some part of what happens in the movie. By this I can tell if I am going to watch it or not.

What are you paying for when you buy a cinema ticket or buy/rent a DVD?
I am paying to watch the film for the entertainment value that it gives. Or if I buy it I usually watch it more than once.

Where do you watch films?
I watch some films in the cinema if I want to watch it with the full sound and full screen. Most movies I watch on DVD on the TV as it is easier and can stay at home instead of going out.

Do you think their is a difference between watching the film at the cinema and watching it at home on DVD?
There is a little difference as the screen is bigger and the sound is all around you. In the cinema you are focused for the whole film at home you can get distracted and not watch all of it.

Are there some films that you have to see at the cinema or doesn't matter?
No I don't think it matters too much as if I watch it in the cinema I will usually watch it at home as well anyway.

What do you understand by the word industry?
Its a good or service that is produced by a company to sell.

Name other industries?
Commercial TV
Farming
Finance

Representation

Representation

Today we talked about how people are represented in todays media. Also how some people show that this thoughts aren't always true and we shouldn't believe everything that we see.
Stereotypes
Is a visual shortcut which we make in our head. They are heard and made so much that we now think this is true.
Archetypes
This is the ultimate stereotype.
Countertype
Something that challenges the stereotypes associated with group, places and people.

Semiotics

Semiotics
This is a study of signs. Also anything that means anything else. When we look at a photo and something spring into out minds, this is called denotation.
How we understand the image, other ideas about the image. This is called connotation.
Here is a poster of the film 'Dawn of the planets of the apes'. In the background it looks like the apes are zombies scouting around the area. The people in the front give us the impression that their will be war as some are holding guns. The first thing you see is the zoomed in apes faces which stair right at you and make it feel intense. You can see the paint on his face which looks like blood. His face is a scary stair not a friendly face. He is frowning showing that he is not happy. I think he is the main focus of the poster as he is the main character in the first film and he will how be a big part in this second film.  The old signs and all the broken objects in the back suggest that the world is all broken up and everything has been destroyed. Some of the people looked frightened to be in the position they are in. The old and dirty clothes they are in helps shows the danger they are in. The characters look cautions in the way they are standing.

Focus-Opening scence

This is the opening scene of focus up to 1:04. It has a bit of action in it when the man comes in with the gun but discover the man who has the gun to his head knows what the two character are up to. It has comedy in the start of the scene. Also there is confusion as  we think the man will be shoot first of all.
Camera- Its starts of with a birds eye view angle. tilting down and a extreme long shot. it goes into a hotel then starts doing over should conversations.
Then it goes to a shot tracking across of both the characters. It carries on going front character to character from the same side. It is cut off at there shoulders so it is a medium long shot.
It cuts to the room of a long shot getting both characters on the bed.

Genre

Genre
Today we watched opening scenes of different films with different genres.

The first one was Harry Brown where 'chavs' where crowding round one person. It was dark and seemed like it was set at night but when the 'chavs' got onto the bike it was day time. Cloudy and muggy. It was loud and the camera was from a characters view.

The second start of the film we saw was 'guardians of the galaxy'. It was an upbeat scene as he was play old music through a walk-man he had on him. It was quite play full as he was kicking rats about and using one as a microphone. The genre was sci-fi.

The last film clip we watched was 'what lies beneath'. The music in the background was making you sit on the edge of your seat, very tense. The scene was in a house at night time. The woman was breathing heavily making you feel out of breath.

Film Trailer

Entourage

Here is the trailer of entourage. In the first lesson we learnt how to embed a youtube clip into our blogs. We had to pic a film trailer we liked and get the clip onto our blog. I watched this film the night before so this was the one that popped into my head.
