Media Questions
What was your prelim task?
My prelim task was designed to be extremely simple and
include all of the required shots. It was about two boys who had fallen in love
with the same girl and they fell out over her basically.
What was your final piece?
My final piece was about a forgotten footballing star who is
reminiscing about his life as a football player. We have shots from when he was
a child and when he is an old man. It was called Cohen, which was the name of
our main character.

Did the planning process for your prelim go well?
The planning process for our prelim went very smoothly when
making our ideas. The only problem we faced was that our story board wasn’t
really detailed enough and when we went to film we forgot how the shot was
meant to go. However we still did alright despite this.Do you feel you planned better for your final film?
When we planned Cohen we had a more complicated idea so the planning needed was a lot more depth. We had to organise actors, book the changing room and organise costume. Whereas in our prelim we did’t need to do all of that. When booking the changing room we were let down by the staff who are in charge of the facilities, I would suggest this was partly due to us not telling them far enough in advance that we wanted to film their but also their own lack of organisation. We also had a problem with the length of our film which was meant to be 2 minutes but fell short of this, this was down to poor planning admittedly but it was overcome well with the quick addition in of a final scene.
Was the filming process better for unforgiving fling or Cohen?
The camera we used for our prelim task was a lot better than the one we used for our final piece which is evident through the quality difference. Putting that aside the filming process for Cohen was a lot more advanced than the one for our Prelim. The Prelim filming took one day whereas Cohen took 3 days as there was more footage needed. I feel that when filming the first scene we planned the shots so well that the shoot went as well as it could have done. But overall i feel the shoot actually went better for the Prelim task because the idea was so simple and it was all filmed at the school and we didn’t need to organise actors.
Was the editing process easier for the second film?
I didn’t do much of the editing for the first film i only watched a few bits. But i took advantage of what i saw like the foley we used in our prelim i watched how it was applied and then when editing my final film i did it myself and it was an easier experience than it would have been. The editing in the first film was extremely simple just applying sound and chopping up clips. But in the final film we had to use software to change colours, add effects and use the warp stabiliser for the shots which weren’t as steady.
How do you feel you improved?
Between my preliminary task and final task i think i have improved on how to plan a film opening, which it consists of and if i were to do it again i would feel very confident about it. I also feel i have improved on my filming skills and my editing skills which were at a low level during my prelim.
